THANKS GEORGETOWN, NOW I KNOW ERNEST ZACHAREVIC’s !
When you google “Georgetown-Penang”, however some street-art pictures will show up on your results.
this is not just ordinary picture, this is an artistic inventions which engage
with their surroundings.
Ernest zacharevic's is the man and the
brain behind this street-artistic inventions.
At first, the one and only street
artist I know is Banksy, which is famous for his “Flower Thrower (Love is in
the Air)”. Banksy is less of an artist than a global phenomenon; that’s why he
is an icon. But after visiting Georgetown, I know the fact that it’s not only
Banksy but there’s a great name too. Yes, he’s Ernest Zacharevic.
Ernest Zacharevic conveys the culture and community of a place, adding artistic interventions to different cities across the world. the lithuanian-born artist blends fine art techniques with a passion for public space, working in the mediums of oil paint, stencil, spray, and sculpture to communicate clever and complex concepts. (an interview with Designboom.2016)
Ernest has travelled across the world and leave his artworks
as his marks. Some of them are so popular and become a cultural identity for that
place. One of the city that made Ernst’ artwork as one of their cultural
identity is Georgetown, a city in Penang, Malaysia.
On last December 2022, I visited Georgetown for the first
time. Among Ernest’s artwork on Georgetown, I’ve visited 3 most famous of them.
They are:
Little
Children on Bicycle (2013). This one is the famous; printed on t-shirt, tote bag, and on the
cover of travel magazine, and many more.
Brother
and Sister on a Swing
Boy on
Motorbike
